It's time to rethink the way we approach conflict situations. A gender perspective is necessary if we are to devise and implement strategies to address the immediate needs of communities affected by conflict. An understanding of the role of gender in conflict will also allow us to make a lasting contribution to peace building and economic recovery and development.
