Who you are determines how you are affected.

The impact of war and armed conflict varies greatly, depending on the gender of the affected individual. Men, women, boys and girls suffer, contribute and resist differently, according to their gender.

Understanding this variance will helps us know how to respond and act.
Module 6: GENDER AND THE CONFLICT PHASE

Goals
  • Participants will apply the concepts introduced earlier in the course regarding gender, IHL, and HR to examples of war and armed conflict on civilian populations.
  • Participants will be aware of:
    • how the impacts of war and armed conflict on civilian populations are gendered and how and why they affect women, men, girls, and boys differently;
    • how the multiple forms of violence in war and armed conflict are gendered;
    • the importance of gender perspectives in planning and implementing responses in the overall effectiveness of a PSO;
    • the logic to gender-based violence;
    • the different PSO actors that would have responsibility for specific PSO issues.
