We need to reexamine our assumptions about gender and culture.

Gender influences economics, politics, social interactions, and individual needs. It varies over time and across cultures. It is an active force in the formation of the family, the community, and the nation.

We need to understand that our actions as participants in PSOs must be consistent not only with our own mandates and initiatives, but also with the realities of the affected culture if we are to succeed.
Module 2: GENDER AND CULTURE
Goals
  • Participants will have an understanding of the concept of gender and its scope;
  • Participants will be aware that gender divisions and inequalities are relevant to their own lives and to their work in Peace Support Operations;
  • Participants will have had the opportunity to discuss some of their own ideas about gender.
